Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 10 Review & Recap

Kelly Reilly in the fifth season of ‘Yellowstone’ It’s Beth and Kayce vs. Jamie as Paramount Network Yellowstone season five continues with episode 10, “Apocalypse of Change”. But before we get to any of that, episode 10 flashes back to before John Dutton was found dead.

First, a check-in with cowboys stuck tending cattle in Texas. Everyone is up and eating breakfast except Teeter (Jen Landon), and when Rip (Cole Hauser) checks on her, she looks terrified. She whispers, “Rattlesnake.”

Rip lifts her sheets and the snake is inside, curled up against her chest. She grabs him before he bites, then yells at Teeter for leaving the flap of her tent open. That’s just inviting trouble. Teeter reluctantly rummages around the inside of his tent, looking for more, and sure enough, there are. They mostly camped on top of the rattlesnake’s den.

Snakes are everywhere, so the cowboys fall into the bed of the truck. Rip confirms that there is even a snake down by the horse. Everyone is packing up to move to the new camp, and Teeter is carefully looking for holes in the new place. Fortunately, it doesn’t find them.

Beth (Kelly Reilly) stops speeding down the highway and quickly lifts her breasts. Unfortunately, the police officer is a woman and is not impressed. However, the officer is impressed by the fact that Beth is meeting her hubby at Ranch 6666 and lets her go with the caveat that she be under 80.

Rip and Ryan (Ian Bohen) are busy injecting snakebite antidote into the horses when Beth runs up. Her visit was a surprise and it turns out she found him by placing an air tag in his wallet. She wants Rip to leave and go to the hotel suite with her and doesn’t care if she looks bad. Beth makes a deal with the boys, saying she’ll take Rip for two days. In exchange, he will fly out with their lovers next weekend and put them up in the same hotel. In addition, the drink will be on her account.

At the ranch, Kayce (Luke Grimes), Monica (Kelsey Asbille) and Tate (Brecken Merrill) fix up their new home, sanding the floors, fixing the roof and installing cabinets. When they are done, Monica is overjoyed that they are in their first home that they actually own.

Meanwhile, Beth and Rip relax naked in bed. Rip reveals that it’s the first time he’s been outside of Montana, and Beth is surprised. Beth wants to imagine what they could do if they weren’t tied to the ranch, and Rip reminds her that he chose to be tied to it.

They go downstairs to the speakeasy where the bartender informs them that all the drinks are true to the speakeasy era. They look around, and Beth points out that there are no tourists in the booth. Rip can tell she’s up to something, and Beth admits she’s not even sure what she’s up to.

After 25 minutes, the action picks up after John’s murder-suicide. Rip and Lloyd (Forrie J. Smith) have a private conversation and both agree that John did not kill himself. Rip doesn’t want anyone to go to jail, but they have to figure out who they’re up against. Lloyd is worried that he will have to look for new jobs. Rip can’t guarantee anything.

Beth gets dressed and is shocked to see Summer (Piper Perabo) in the living room. Summer thinks she can’t leave and doesn’t know what to do, and Beth shows her a form that shows she’s been released and free all along. She was never officially under house arrest; it’s just something John said. Beth informs her that she has to leave immediately and even offers her a ride to the barn. From there he can ask the cowboy for a ride.

Beth wishes her the best. After they exchange a few insults, Beth puts Summer in the rear view mirror.

Carter (Finn Little) takes John’s death very hard. He thinks that John has abandoned him, like everyone else in his life. Rip assures him that he will always have a place with them. He encourages Carter to cowboy up and get to work. Carter says he wanted to be just like John. If Carter can pull it off, Rip says he’ll be the first of many to try.

Summer asks Rip for a ride to the airport.

Kayce returns home, and Monica rushes into his arms. Monica says that Tate knows what was on the news, and Kayce explains that she has to stay at the cabin for now. Monica assures him that she and Tate will pack up and join him.

Kayce and Tate are walking, and Kayce wonders what Tate wants to be when he grows up. (He’d never asked that before.) Tate just assumed he’d be working on the ranch. Without coming out and saying what John wanted, Kayce asks if Tate has ever thought about running a ranch. Tate says that John was killed for running the ranch and that he would rather just work.

Kayce admits that she can’t tell Tate everything right now. Tate cries when she says she doesn’t understand why John is dead. “Just know this, you can remember the way he lived or you can remember the way he died. Your heart cannot focus on both. You’re going to have to choose whether you’re going to miss him or be mad at him,” says Kayce.

“Then I’ll miss him,” Tate replies.

Jamie receives condolences at work, then hears four words that horrify him: “Your sister is waiting.” She is sitting at his desk when he walks in, and he wisely decides to leave the door open. Beth walked up to her brother and slapped him across the face. When he looks away, she slaps him again and again. He still refuses to look at her, and she says they both know why.

“Last chance, Jamie,” Beth says as she heads for the door. He doesn’t move or respond, so she approaches him from behind and warns him that seeing her will be the last thing he does alive. “I’ll be the last thing on this planet your rotten fucking eyes will ever see, and I’ll be laughing,” Beth says.

Sarah (Dawn Olivieri) and Ellis Steele (John Emmet Tracy) from Market Equities are outside the door, and Beth taunts Sarah that this is going to be fun. Beth crashes into her and holds her against the wall as Sarah giggles.

Beth leaves, now 100% sure that Jamie and Sarah killed her father. She calls Kayce and tells him that she met Jamie and he couldn’t look her in the eye. He didn’t even deny that he was responsible for their father’s death. Kayce seems to accept this as Beth adds that Sarah (the snake) might look her in the eye.

Kayce immediately calls an old military friend and asks if he’s still in the dark. A friend sends him the app that Kayce uses to communicate, and Kayce tells him that his dad supposedly died by suicide. Friend is not sure which company would take such a big hit; it would be a $40 million hit. He suggests that Kayce be careful snooping around and promises to get back to him.

Ellis tells Jamie that he is sorry for his loss, but that it presents new opportunities. Jamie insists that the family won’t be able to afford the ranch and that it would be best if Market Equities put it to good use. Jamie promises to return the rent that his father had no right to cancel. It will also begin work on negating the restrictions on trust in the country. He’ll have to subpoena John Dutton’s will first, but he doesn’t think the estate can afford to contest it for long. It should be about a year before construction can begin, but the lease could be reinstated by the end of the week.

Ellis promises that Market Equities will support him if he runs for governor. After Ellis leaves, Jamie tells Sarah that Beth knows what they did. Sarah thinks that Beth would blame everything that happens on Jamie and that they shouldn’t be worried. Sarah reminds him that he won and that kings feast, not wallow.

Jamie takes off Sarah’s dress and the two most disgusting characters on her Yellowstone have sex.

Rip drives Summer to the airport and she wonders if he knows that cowboys will cease to exist in two generations. Rip believes they will all adapt to any changes. Summer admits she’ll miss seeing them work, and Rip says he’ll miss them doing it at some point.

Speaking of cowboys, episode 10 ends with the team in Texas packing up and heading to work.
